No, we are not gurus, pandits, or pundits, and we don't claim to be enlightened. We're just people who recognize that life is a lot better when you spend your time doing things that really matter, and we've devoted our careers to helping people do just that.

We are professionals with over fifteen years of practical experience, and Masters level knowledge of adult learning, psychology, and organization development. More importantly, we are people who love our work.

Karen Sella, Managing Partner

Karen offers multi-modal perspectives, practices, and resources that help people translate meaningful intentions into masterful actions.  Her coaching method is based on an interdisciplinary background in human development, organizational psychology, expressive therapies, and somatic arts, as well as over fifteen years experience leading individual, community, and organizational development initiatives as a consultant, manager, and coach.

Prior to launching Lumina Coaching, Karen provided leadership development, performance management, and organizational learning services as managing director of a boutique human capital consulting firm and within the human capital practice of a Big Five consulting firm.  Along the way, she has also worked in the social sector as a manager, therapist and fund developer. In addition to her coaching work, she serves as Director for Integral Ventures, a strategy consultancy committed to fostering more innovative and sustainable ways of doing business. 

Karen's coaching work is also enriched by her international background.  "Growing up global," she was raised on five different continents by parents from Europe and America, and educated in international, public, private, and home schools.  From this transcultural upbringing, Karen has inherited and cultivated a gift for bridging and integrating worlds, relating to people wherever and however they are.  She is part of a growing population of truly global citizens who call the world h(om)e. 

She has a B.S. in Organizational Psychology and Fine Arts from Springfield College, and an M.A. in Expressive Therapies from what is now Lesley University. In addition, she has been certified to use Spiral Dynamics Integral, Kolbe System as a Kolbe External Specialist, and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as an MBTI Qualified Administrator. When not coaching or consulting, Karen can be found practicing yoga and pilates, reading and writing, conversing with friends and family, or enjoying the trails and beaches of the Pacific Northwest.

Daniel O'Connor, Partner

Daniel has a real passion for helping people discover and express their authentic work in the world--the unique offering that really distinguishes them in the eyes of those they serve. Using an inquiry-driven approach that evokes both critical self-reflection and appreciative self-expression, he helps people explore new perspectives, clarify their intentions, design effective actions, and learn from experience.

He also serves as the Managing Director of Integral Ventures, a strategy consultancy committed to fostering more innovative and sustainable ways of doing business.  In this capacity, he works with entrepreneurs and executives to develop strategies that create real value with their customers, employees, and investors, while making a positive difference in the world.  Prior to founding Integral Ventures, he worked in a series of leading, national management consulting, management development, and corporate finance firms.

Daniel's formal education includes a BA in economics from the University of Illinois, an MBA in strategy and finance from the University of Chicago, and an MA in organization development from Antioch University.  He also has many years of experience in various developmental practices, including martial arts, wilderness backpacking, and yoga.

Michael Herman, Open Space Partner

Michael began his career as a financial consultant to hospitals, structuring and managing large equipment and building projects. Later he worked as an instructor of Outward Bound experiential learning programs in wilderness, corporate and community settings. He founded Michael Herman Associates in 1991 as the marriage of spirit, learning and wilderness on the one hand and bottom-line business on the other. He is an internationally recognized leader in the practice of Open Space Technology. He invites powerful, practical results in organization.

Michael's training includes a BA in Economics at Indiana University, and an MBA in Finance and Healthcare Administration at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Along the way, Michael has also been a student of Somatic Psychology, Organization Transformation, Experiential Education, Asset-Based Community Development, and Organizational Planning and Development, working directly with world-class teachers in each of these disciplines.
